DAN 101: Introduction to Dance (3)

Prerequisite:
An overview of the study of dance as an art form through discussion of dance and its relation to the other arts. Technique sessions introduce students to classical forms and exploration of modern and jazz modes. Emphasis is on the fundamentals of movement, rhythm, composition, and style. This course provides students with an opportunity to experience and develop an appreciation for dance. Offered as a fine arts core option. (Offered annually.)

DAN 102: Concert Workshop (1)

Prerequisite:
Study of the methods used by choreographers involving patterns, dynamics, and symbolism through improvisation and structured formats. Public performance by audition only. May be repeated for up to six credit hours. (Offered as needed.)

DAN 130: Basics of Modern Dance (1)

Prerequisite:
Fundamentals of modern dance technique creating the development of strength, flexibility, balance, control, and endurance. Study of styles evolved by Denishawn, Wigman, Limon, Humphrey, Graham, and others. (Offered as needed.)

DAN 140: Basics of Jazz Dance (1)

Prerequisite:
Elementary jazz techniques and their foun-dation in various ethnic cultures. Application to contemporary dance forms and exercise programs. (Offered as needed.)

DAN 211: Advanced Techniques (3)

Prerequisite:
By audition only, for selected individuals who have completed intermediate training in ballet or modern dance techniques. Required for a minor in dance. A student should seriously consider her/his ability to participate in this course when choosing a minor. Primarily a studio course focusing on the proper execution of technical skills. (Offered as needed.)

DAN 295: Introductory Topics in Dance (1-3)

Prerequisite: to be determined by the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts
An introductory study of a specific topic within dance. Intended for freshmen and sophomores, or for students with little or no background in dance. The student may repeat the course, but not the topic. (Offered as needed.)
