Master of Science in Occupational Therapy
Keuka College offers a strong, innovative, entry-level occupational therapy graduate curriculum which includes Fieldwork Level II experiences as well as coursework in research, theory, leadership, and management. While enrolled in two action-oriented research courses, students complete and defend a scholarly research project.
Graduate Student Learning Objectives
- Prepare students to practice as entry-level occupational therapists in a wide range of
practice areas, age groups, and populations with a strong foundation in theoretical
knowledge, the use of occupation, technical skills, values, and ethical
practice.
- Prepare students to use clinical reasoning in all aspects of occupation therapy
practice.
- Provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to use and appreciate
research when making clinically sound judgments in their practice, which will
advance the effectiveness of occupational therapy.
- Provide students with the tools to advance their management and leadership skills
in order to assume the roles of advocate, trailer/facilitator, manager, consultant, and leader
in their occupational therapy practice.
- Develop and appreciation for life-long learning needed in order to practice in a changing environment
Objectives of the Scholarly Research Master's Project
Upon completion of this project, the student should be able to demonstrate the ability to:
- Apply the steps of the research process using critical thinking.
- Complete a research proposal/project following approval by appropriate bodies.
- Present and/or defend the research project illustrating its importance to the body of knowledge of
occupational therapy both in a written and oral format.
- Thoroughly research the topic to support the research proposal prior to initiating the research
process.
- Design a study, engage in data collection, record data obtained, and analyze the results.
- Engage in research following ethical procedures.
Graduate Curriculum
Students who successfully complete the Bachelor's of Science degree in Occupational Science at Keuka College with a GPA of at least 3.0 and meet professional behavioral standards will be eligible to enroll in the Master's of Science degree program in Occupational Therapy.
