Scholarship and Award Opportunities

There are many corporations and hospital systems that offer scholarships to OT students. Some of them are listed below; consult Web sites for more information.

Genesis Rehab Services Scholarship

Scholarship money is available for students in their junior or senior year of study who have at least six months of school to complete and who have a GPA of 3.0 or better. Students may receive a maximum of $14,000 in unrestricted funds that are disbursed on an installment plan basis beginning when the student is in school and ending when the student completes 30 months of consecutive, full-time employment with Genesis Rehab Services. New York Occupational Therapy Association Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding senior occupational therapy student who is continuing on for the fifth year.

Following the selection, a press release about the award will be sent to the recipient's parents and hometown newspaper.

New York State Black Occupational Therapy Caucus Scholarship

The Delores B. Chandler Scholarship is awarded to qualified black students in recognition of academic performance and commitment to community service. The $800 scholarships will be awarded to students matriculating in an accredited professional program.
Students must be full or part-time black students who are New York state residents and enrolled in an accredited state occupational therapy program, have a GPA of 2.5 or better over the course of two semesters of core occupational therapy courses, and have demonstrated a commitment to community service in the spirit of Delores B. Chandler. Community service may include participation in student groups, tutoring, church involvement, and volunteer experience.

New York City Board of Education (NYCBOE) Scholarship

This scholarship is available for students in the last two years of their occupational therapy program. The NYCBOE will cover full tuition costs for two years in exchange for four years of employment in the New York City School District. Applications for the scholarship are generally due in late spring (April or May).

AOTA EK Wise Scholarship

The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) is pleased to announce the establishment of the AOTA E.K. Wise Scholarship Fund. Previously known as the E.K. Wise Loan Program, the fund was established in the 1960s through the generous bequest of Elizabeth K. Wise to support women pursuing higher education degrees. The new scholarship fund reflects the changes that have occurred in the education of entry-level occupational therapists over the last several decades while remaining true to the intent of the original bequest. The focus of the scholarship is to support students who can meet E.K. Wise's and the Association's objectives of developing a work force to meet society's diverse occupational needs in underserved areas or communities. 2008 Burke Rehabilitation Hospital Scholarship

The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital offers a scholarship assistance program to help pay final-year tuition expenses for students enrolled in an occupational therapy program. In order to apply, applicants must be eligible to receive a New York state limited permit in occupational therapy in 2009 AND be eligible and available to begin employment at Burke before the end of 2009. Scholarship awards to selected students will be $6,000.

Genesis Rehab Services Scholarship

Genesis offers a scholarship program for students ($14,000) and a student loan repayment program (up to $15,000). All applicants must apply for each respective program (VPO must approve). Information is in the Scholarship Downloads section.

Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders Scholarship

Progressus Therapy has established a unique partnership with the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD). We will provide a $3,000 scholarship to recognize a speech-language pathology graduate student who has completed an innovative project related to speech-language pathology services in the school setting. American Occupational Therapy Foundation Scholarship

In partnership with the American Occupational Therapy Foundation, Progressus Therapy has developed a scholarship program for master's-level occupational therapy students with an interest in school-based therapy. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Applications are due to AOTA February 2009. More information >

Career Vision Scholarships

Progressus Therapy awards several $3,000 scholarships each year to deserving master's- level students in speech language pathology and occupational therapy. Students awarded this scholarship will demonstrate a strong interest in school therapy and plan to work in the school setting after they graduate. More information >

Pi Theta Epsilon (PTE)

Pi Theta Epsilon (PTE) is the National Honor Society for Occupational Therapy majors. Inductees are invited to join PTE during their junior year.

Occupational Therapy Academic Achievement Award

The Occupational Therapy Award of Academic Achievement honors a member of the senior occupational therapy class for high academic achievement.

Peter Talty Professional Commitment Award

The Peter Talty Professional Commitment Award is presented to the student that demonstrates professional behaviors, commitment, and personal dedication exemplary of a future occupational therapy practitioner.

Leadership in Occupational Therapy Award

The Leadership in Occupational Therapy Award recognizes a member of the senior occupational therapy class for collaborative effort to promote the profession of occupational therapy. The award acknowledges an individual’s effort to promote public awareness and understanding of OT at Keuka College and the community-at-large.

Occupational Therapy Award of Merit

The Occupational Therapy Award of Merit honors a member of the senior occupational therapy class for global contributions to the occupational therapy program.

Honoring Occupational Therapy Leaders of Tomorrow

The Keuka College occupational therapy program is proud to prepare clinical leaders of tomorrow. Part of this preparation is the development of life-long learnings skill that reinforce the profession’s requirements for continuing education beyond entry-level certification. The occupational therapy program recognizes that life-long learning can be achieved in a variety of ways, from volunteering to specialized education. This honors program is designed to recognize individuals and their individual style of enhancing their professional skills.
